Pfleiderer switches fuel for steam generation from pulverised lignite to biomass

The aim of the project is to build a modern biomass power plant to supply the entire heat requirements of the Pfleiderer Spezialpapiere paper mill while reducing the previous CO₂ emissions by approximately 27,000 tonnes per year. The core element is climate-neutral steam generation. In the framework of a contracting project, GETEC heat & power GmbH was commissioned with the planning and construction at the Teisnach site. The plant has been in trial operation since April/May 2023.

Performance Data:
• Annual process energy: 70,000 - 80,000 MWh
• Capacity: 22 t/h saturated steam at 7 bar (105 psig)
• 2-pass smoke tube boiler with grate firing system
• Fuel: Waste wood (A1 & A2) plus forest chip

Goals

• Contribution to the expansion of alternative energy sources and to the overall energy transition
• CO₂ reduction and regional procurement of fuel
• Promotion of sustainability and climate protection
• Consistent with the focus on resource economy in the production of high-quality speciality papers as part of our overall PT-ECO-VISION concept.
